Biographical Details

Sydney had just left school when he enlisted in the 6th Field Company of Engineers in August 1915 and embarked for the war from Sydney on the Ceramic. He trained in Egypt and England before reaching France in September 1916 and fought on the Western Front throughout 1917 and 1918. He transferred to the Australian Flying Corps just at the end of the war in November 1918. Sydney returned to Australia in June 1919 and settled in northern Tasmania. He died in 1988.
