Biographical Details
Arch was 21, working in the mining industry, when he enlisted on 19 October 1914 at Broadmeadows, Victoria. He embarked for Egypt two months later and spent several months training at Zaitoun and Lemnos before joining the Gallipoli offensive where he was wounded in the field in November and was sent to hospital in Egypt. Arch embarked for the Western Front in March 1916 and was wounded in action a year later. Following convalescence in England he was admitted to a venereal clinic before re-joining his unit at the Front in June 1918. At the end of the war Arch returned to Australia and worked for a railway construction company in New South Wales before retiring to Launceston where he died on 26 October 1954.Wounded by a bomb at Anzac Cove in November 1915 and again wounded by shrapnel in France in 1917.
