Biographical Details

William was born in Launceston in 1888 but enlisted at Enoggera in May 1915. He left Brisbane on the Aeneas in June but didn't actually reach France until 12 months later due to spells in hospital for diarrhoea, jaundice, haemorrhoids and tuberculosis. Once at the Front he was congratulated for ‘his gallantry near Moquet Farm in bringing in wounded men who had been out some days’ on 14 August 1916.William was wounded in action in March 1917, gunshot wounds and a fractured skull, and was returned to Australia in November 1917. He died in Launceston in 1945.
