Biographical Details

Eric had tried to enlist in 1914 but had been rejected on account of his poor eyesight. However he was more successful when he applied in December 1916. He completed his initial training at Maribyrnong and embarked from Melbourne on the Ascanius in May 1917. On arrival in England he was admitted to hospital with eczema and then measles and seborrhoea. Eric returned to Australia ‘for a change’ in December 1917 and was discharged the following April when he returned to his job as a piano tuner at Findlays. He died in Launceston.
