Biographical Details

Herbert was killed in action in Picardy in April 1917. He had enlisted with the 12th Infantry Battalion in December 1915 but had transferred to the 4th machine gun company when in France. He was hospitalised several times with influenza, colitis and mumps. Herbert's body was never found but he is commemorated at Villers-Bretonneux. He was only nineteen.
