Biographical Details
Fred was baptised at Holy Trinity in 1898 and enlisted in the 40th Battalion in Brunswick, Victoria in February 1916. He embarked from Hobart on HMTS Berrima in July and disembarked in Plymouth seven weeks later. He proceeded to the Front in November but was wounded in action, gassed, in June 1917. Although he re-joined his unit Fred was to suffer from influenza, catarrh, and trench foot before being wounded in action with gunshot wounds to the arms, thigh, and abdomen on 28 March 1918. He was to die from these wounds three days later and is buried at Doullens, Picardy.
