Biographical Details

Stanley was killed in action near Albert, the Somme on 5 August 1916. He had lived at Gleadow Street and was a fireman working for the government railways before he enlisted in April 1915. He arrived in Gallipoli in the September but was invalided back to Egypt at the end of the year suffering from frost bite and trench foot. His personal effects were returned to his parents and consisted only of letters, a pocket book, wallet, purse, money and coins, devotional books and a scarf.
