Biographical Details

Colin was born in 1893 in Wollongong but the family were living in Albion Street, Invermay when he enlisted on 8 January 1915. Within a month he had embarked from Melbourne on the Clan McGillvray and took part in the initial landings at Gallipoli. In September 1915 he contracted diarrhoea and malaria and in November suffered a sprained back. He later saw active service in France but scabies and trench foot, which seems to have exacerbated a previously undiagnosed club foot, rendered him unfit for duty and he was returned to Australia in January 1918. He died in Victoria in 1959.
