Biographical Details

Algerian was the youngest of 13 children and an apprentice baker when he enlisted in the 26th Battalion in June 1915. He arrived at Gallipoli in September but fell dangerously ill with enteritis and was invalided to Malta and then England. He fought on the Western Front throughout 1916 before being invalided to England in February 1917. He returned to Australia in 1919 and married Annie Richards in Hobart two years later. Algerian settled in Bass Hill, New South Wales where he died in 1970.
