Biographical Details

James was a twenty one year old upholsterer working at Coogans when he enlisted in the 12th Battalion in June 1915. He embarked almost immediately and was mustered at Mudros, the staging point for Gallipoli but he did not actually see action there. He was then sent to the Western Front and was wounded in action in June 1916 receiving gunshot wounds to the skull. He returned to Australia in October 1916 and was discharged the following January. James returned to his former work at Coogans.
