Biographical Details

George was a past student of Launceston Church Grammar School and an orchardist on his enlistment papers in September 1915. He spent three months in Egypt before arriving at the Western Front in March 1916. Initially he was a gunner in the 6th Field Artillery but was transferred to the 4th Australian Division Headquarters and then to the fledgling Australian Flying Corps training as a pilot in July 1918. He returned to Australia in June 1919, married Greta Lyne in 1923 and died in 1953 aged 62 years.
