Biographical Details

Thomas was twenty three when he enlisted in the 15th Machine Gun Company at Claremont on 3 October 1916. He was a linesman working for the railways, a job that he went back to after the war. Thomas left Melbourne on the Orontes in December 1916 and after training at Grantham, UK he proceeded to France in June 1917. He suffered from bronchitis and malaria in 1917 and 1918 and returned to Australia when hostilities ended. He died in 1940 as a result of an accident at the Hobart railway yards.
