Biographical Details

William was baptised at Holy Trinity in 1884 and attended Invermay Primary School. He enlisted in January 1916 at Liverpool NSW describing himself as a plasterer but this is an understatement as he was ‘a very fine ornamental plasterer who worked on some of the nation's finest building exteriors’. William arrived on the Western Front in July 1916 but was wounded in action at Moquet Farm on 11th August. After a spell in hospital he returned to the front and was killed on the first day of action at Bullecourt on 11 April 1917. His body was never found.
