Biographical Details
Roy was 18 years and eight months when he enlisted at Claremont in March 1916. After a short training programme he embarked from Hobart in July and by November he was at the Front. Roy was wounded in action on two occasions: gunshot wounds to the left arm on Christmas Day 1916 and gunshot wounds to both arms on 17 October 1917. A medical report for June 1918 stated that he was suffering from ‘effort syndrome’ and being declared unfit for duty he returned to Australia in March 1919. He married Laurel Mather in April 1920. Roy died in July 1928 and was interred at Carr Villa.
