Biographical Details
Alfred was a motor mechanic when he enlisted in the 26th Battalion in September 1915. He left Melbourne in January 1916 and did his initial training in Egypt before arriving at Marseilles on his way to the Front. He was wounded in action at Pozieres in July 1916 with severe gunshot wounds to the right arm and abdomen. Although he re-joined the 26th Battalion in March 1917 he fell sick with influenza and was declared unfit for service in August 1917. Alfred retuned to Australia in December 1917 and married Violet Sykes early in 1918. He died at the LGH in June 1921.
