Biographical Details
James enlisted aged 21 in March 1915 as a driver in the Field Ambulance. He was at the Front for much of 1916 and 1917 before being gassed in July 1918. James was awarded the Military Medal for his heroic actions at Buire on 5 April 1918 when he rescued casualties under intense shell and machine gun fire. James returned to live in Launceston in April 1919 and died in 1956. Military Medal commendation describing the action that won the award.
