Biographical Details

Herbert was a somewhat unusual recruit for he was thirty five years old and married. He and his family lived at 3 Invermay Road and on enlistment he described himself as a labourer. He took part in the Gallipoli campaign but was invalided back to Australia at the end of September 1915 with cardiac disease. This did not stop him from presenting again for duty in January 1916 and seeing action in France. He was promoted to corporal and returned to Australia in July 1919. He died in Launceston.
