Biographical Details

Cyril had previously been rejected for service because of poor teeth but in February 1916 he was accepted into the 8th Field Company of Engineers. He embarked from Sydney and spent a month training in Egypt before arriving in France in October 1916 where he was re-mustered as a driver. Cyril was held in military custody for the early part of 1918 but returned to his unit at the Front in July. He returned to Australia in June 1919 and lived in Invermay until his death in 1951 aged 54.
