Biographical Details
Robert had been apprenticed at Coogans but on his enlistment at Ulverstone in April 1915 he described himself as a labourer, 5 foot 6 inches tall and 9 stone 13 lbs in weight. The family home was at 8 Balaclava Street and before the war Robert had been a prominent member of the Launceston Harriers Club. After arriving in Egypt and undergoing further training he saw active service in Gallipoli before being sent to France where he joined the 7th Brigade, machine gun company. He was killed in action on 3 March 1917 and is buried at Warlencaurt cemetery.
