Biographical Details
Thirty four year old Harry Oliver was a waiter when he enlisted in the 40th Battalion at Claremont on 14 March 1916. He embarked on the Berrima from Hobart on 1 July and after training in England he proceeded to the Front. He was invalided back to Deptford with a septic leg in December 1916 and the following June he was transferred to the 3rd Australian Army Nursing staff. A year later he came down with chronic bronchitis which led to his return to Australia and discharge in November 1918. He died in 1942 aged sixty one.
