Biographical Details

Augustus was born in 1889 in Stanley. He enlisted in the 6th Company of Engineers in August 1915 and was soon promoted corporal (September 1915), sergeant (June 1916) and then company sergeant major (July 1918). In January 1919 he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for ‘carrying out his duties at all times in an exemplary manner, often under difficult conditions’. After the war he lived in Hobart working as an engine driver. Augustus died in May 1960.
