Biographical Details

Charles was an engineer working for the Tasmanian Railways when he enlisted in the 6th Field Artillery in September 1915. He was almost 37 and married with five children. He embarked at Melbourne on the Afric and after a short training stop in Egypt arrived in France in late March 1916.While at the front he was hospitalised for a variety of complaints including scabies, pediculosis, alvular (sic) abscess, rheumatism and diarrhoea. Charles returned to Tasmania and died in Mowbray in 1936 aged 58.
