Biographical Details

Claude was a past student of Launceston Church Grammar School, married and a motor driver when he enlisted in the 12th Battalion in April 1916. He embarked from Melbourne on HMTS Palermo arriving in Devonport, UK on 21 November. After a number of hospital visits for scabies, bronchitis and mumps Claude eventually proceeded to the Front in April 1917. Less than a fortnight later he was killed in action at the battle of Bullecourt on 5 May. He is buried at Villers-Bretonneux.
