Biographical Details

Donald was baptised at Holy Trinity in 1896 and was studying metallurgy at the University of Melbourne when he enlisted in March 1916. He was promoted lance-corporal in October 1916 and then corporal January 1917 before being commissioned in June 1917. He attended various bombing and musketry schools before being sent to the Front in November 1917. He was wounded in action 27 July 1918 with multiple gunshot wounds but was able to re-join his regiment just before the end of the war. He returned to Australia in April 1919 and died in 1969 aged seventy three.
