Biographical Details

George was 18 when he joined the militia in 1904. He rose through the ranks becoming a colour sergeant in 1908 and then transferred to the regular army as a sergeant major on the Instructional Staff. In April 1917 he was commissioned and embarked on the Shropshire as ship's adjutant. On reaching England he was attached to the 52nd Battalion as adjutant and proceeded to France in October 1917. George was promoted captain in October 1918 and was attached to London HQ before returning to South Australia in July 1919 where he remained until his death.
