Biographical Details

Alfred was twenty two when he enlisted at Claremont in the 15th Battalion on 27 July 1915. He left for Egypt in late September and was transferred to the 24th Battalion in March 1916. His war record is incomplete for 1916/17 but in September 1917 he was wounded in action and sent to hospital at Caniers, re-joining his unit in November. During 1918 he suffered from pyrexia and renal calculus which led to him being invalided back to Australia where he was discharged in November 1918.
