Biographical Details

William was an apprentice furniture maker and just turned 21 when he enlisted in the 12th Battalion at Claremont in September 1916. He left Melbourne in December and then spent four months in training in England before joining his unit in France in July 1917. At the beginning of 1918 William suffered from severe diarrhoea before returning to the Front in July. He was discharged in Australia in July 1919. He lived in Hobart after the war and died at the Repatriation Hospital in 1964.
