Biographical Details

William died of wounds received in action in Picardy on 3 November 1916. He had been a mechanic with the Tasmanian railways when he enlisted in Liverpool, NSW in November 1915. He had previously been rejected for service on two occasions for being medically unfit. William arrived in France in June 1916 and after a month in hospital (septic sores) he joined his unit, the 4th Infantry Battalion at the front. William's remains are at the Heilly Military Cemetery. He was twenty eight.
