Biographical Details

Fred was almost 30 and a law clerk when he enlisted in July 1915. He had been rejected twice before on account of being too short, at 5 foot 2 inches. He saw action in France from April 1916 and was wounded in action, compound fracture to the tibia, twelve months later. Following several operations he was discharged as ‘being permanently unfit for general service’. On his return home he became a Council Clerk and married Ethel Dutton in April 1919. He died 1943 at Bell Bay.
