Biographical Details

Roger was a commercial traveller and enlisted in the 57th Regiment in Melbourne on 15 May 1915. It was almost a year before he embarked for the Front where he transferred to the 6th Battalion. He was wounded at Fromelles, 19 July 1916, and sent to England for treatment and convalescence. His war record for 1917 and 1918 is incomplete but he was recognised by the Secretary of State for War in August 1919 ‘for valuable services rendered in connection with the war’. He returned to Australia and married Harriet Brunning before settling in Victoria and working for the Nestle company. He spent his later years at Caulfield, Melbourne dying in 1968 aged 83 years.
