Biographical Details

Known as Jack, he enlisted in 1915 in the 3rd Field Artillery and gave his age as 19 years and 4 months when in fact he was really 16 years and 8 months. He was over six foot tall and had been a naval reserves cadet which probably helped him get away with this deceit. Jack returned to Australia in February 1917 after suffering severe varicose veins and shell shock. He settled in New South Wales where he died in 1966.
